Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2025

tl;dr

Don't be a jerk. Don't break laws. Don't abuse the service. Pay your bill. We'll host your blog and try not to mess it up. If either of us wants out, we can leave with 30 days notice.

Agreement To Terms

By using Jot, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. Simple as that. We're not gonna chase you down.

The Service

Jot lets you text us and turns those texts into blog posts. We provide:

  • A phone number to text
  • Blog hosting at jot.blog/yourname (or your custom domain on pro)
  • A dashboard to manage your posts
  • Storage for your content

That's it. We're not a social network. We don't have algorithms. We don't do engagement metrics. You text, we publish.

Eligibility

You must be 13 or older to use jot. If you're under 18, get your parent's permission. We're not verifying this bc we're not weird about collecting age data, but don't lie.

Your Account

  • You're responsible for keeping your phone number secure
  • If someone texts from your number, we assume it's you
  • You get one account per phone number (no gaming the system with multiple accounts to abuse free trials)
  • Don't share your account. It's tied to your phone number anyway, so this shouldn't be an issue

Your Content

You own your content. We don't claim any rights to what you post. You keep all copyrights, trademarks, whatever. We just need permission to display it on your blog (obviously).

By posting, you grant us a license to:

  • Host and display your content on your blog
  • Make backups (for disaster recovery)
  • Show excerpts in search results / sitemaps / rss feeds

This license ends when you delete content or close your account. We're not keeping it to train ai or whatever.

Acceptable Use

Don't use Jot for:

  • Illegal stuff (obvious, but we have to say it)
  • Spam or phishing
  • Harassment, doxxing, or threats
  • CSAM or any content exploiting minors
  • Malware distribution
  • Impersonating others
  • Scraping or automated abuse of the service

Basically: Don't be evil. We're not trying to police your thoughts or politics, but if you're using Jot to break laws or hurt people, we'll shut you down and report you if required.

Content Moderation

We generally don't monitor what you post. It's your blog. But if we receive complaints or legal notices, we'll investigate. If you're violating these terms, we may:

  • Remove specific posts
  • Suspend your account
  • Terminate your account
  • Report you to authorities if legally required

We'll try to give you a heads up unless doing so would be illegal or dangerous.

Payment & Billing

  • Starter: $5/month or $50/year
  • Pro (custom domain): $12/month or $120/year
  • 14-day free trial, no credit card required
  • Auto-renewal unless you cancel
  • No refunds for partial months, but you can use the service until the end of your billing period
  • We can change prices with 30 days notice (existing subscribers get grandfathered in for 3 months)

If your payment fails, we'll try a few times then pause your account. Your blog stays up for 7 days, then goes offline until you fix payment.

Cancellation

You can cancel anytime. No questions asked. Your blog stays live until the end of your billing period, then goes offline. We'll keep your data for 30 days in case you change your mind, then delete it.

We can cancel your account if you violate these terms or stop paying. We'll give you notice unless it's an emergency (like you're hosting malware or something).

Service Availability

We try to keep Jot running 24/7, but shit happens. Servers crash. Internet breaks. We might need to do maintenance. We're not promising 100% uptime (nobody can).

If we have planned downtime, we'll give you a heads up. If something breaks unexpectedly, we'll fix it as fast as we can and update you.

Intellectual Property

Jot's code, design, logo, name, etc. are ours (or properly licensed). Don't steal them. You can't make a clone called "jott" or "jot.io" or whatever. That's lame and we'll send lawyers.

DMCA & Copyright

If someone posts your copyrighted work without permission, email us at dmca@jot.blog with:

  • What was infringed
  • Where it is (url)
  • Your contact info
  • A statement that you own it or represent the owner

We'll investigate and remove it if valid. False DMCA claims are illegal, so don't abuse this.

Disclaimers

Jot is provided "as is." We're not making promises beyond "we'll try our best to keep it running and not lose your data." We're not liable if:

  • The service goes down and you lose traffic
  • A bug deletes your post (we have backups, but still)
  • Your blog gets you in trouble (what you post is on you)

Lawyer translation: we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Our liability is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months.

Indemnification

If you do something illegal and someone sues us for it, you agree to cover our legal costs. Don't make us deal with your mess.

Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by Colorado law (where we're registered). If we have a dispute, let's try to work it out like adults before getting lawyers involved.

If it goes to court, jurisdiction is in Jefferson County. No class actions - we'll do individual arbitration if needed.

Changes To Terms

We can update these terms. If we do, we'll update the date at the top and notify you (text or email). Continued use means you accept the new terms. If you don't like them, you can cancel.
